United For a Cause 5K to be held May 14 at the Y
The event will benefit local high school students and cancer survivors
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council have teamed up to host the United For a Cause 5K and Family 1-Mile Walk/Run on Tuesday, May 14. The 1-Miler begins at 6:30pm at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, with the 5K at 7:00pm.
The YMCA and PTA Council are united to provide opportunities for health and wellness within the Scotch Plains-Fanwood community. Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council Health and Wellness Scholarship and LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a free 12-week physical activity program for members of our community recovering from cancer. The program helps cancer survivors heal in mind, body and spirit and gives them the tools to continue their journey of health and wellness beyond the 12-week program.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council Health and Wellness Scholarship is for local students who choose to pursue a career in the health and wellness field. The event will acknowledge students’ positive intentions by providing scholarship monies to put toward their college, school or training program costs. By providing financial support, the scholarship aims to foster their desire to make the world a healthier place.
The entry fee for the 5K is $25 by May 1 and $30 after May 1. Entry fee for the 1-Miler is $15, and those 17 and under can also participate in the 5K for $15. Registration is taking place now at www.unitedforacause5k.org.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is located at 1340 Martine Avenue, Scotch Plains. All guests who enter the YMCA building must provide a valid government-issued photo ID.
