Update: Train Accident Victim Has Been Identified
NJ Transit police will not yet say what the man was doing on the tracks.

NJ Transit Police this morning released the name of the man who was fatally injured Friday evening after being struck by a Raritan Valley Line train.
David Cavelli, 49, of Scotch Plains, was on the tracks between the Netherwood and Fanwood stations shortly before 6 p.m. that night when he was hit by a train en route to High Bridge.
NJ Transit Police are still investigating the incident and aren't releasing any further details at this time about why Cavelli was on the tracks.

Courtney Caroll, a spokesman for NJ Transit police, told Patch on Saturday that the train involved in the accident was the the 5:37 p.m. Raritan Valley Line train out of Newark. Caroll said that when the conductor spotted Cavelli on the tracks, he put on the emergency brakes, but was unable to stop the train in time, striking and fatally injuring him.
Caroll said that there were 550 passengers on the train, all whom were transferred to another train to continue their trip. The entire process took about an hour.

Passengers on trains on the Raritan Valley Line Friday night were backed up for hours due to what NJ Transit labeled at the time a "trespasser incident."
