SECAUCUS, NJ — For the 26th year in a row, Secaucus was named a 2018 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of the town's commitment to effective urban forest management.

Secaucus achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: A tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

This year, the Secaucus Arbor Day celebration will be held next Tuesday, April 30 at Huber Street elementary. All Secaucus public school students, elementary through high school, learn the importance of trees and their contribution to a clean and healthy environment.

A Tree Appreciation Campaign is currently underway with the goal of raising $10,000; all the money raised will go towards the planting of new trees in Secaucus.

“Every year, we continue to increase our tree cover but need to do a lot more to reach our goal. We thank all our supporters who sponsor tree-planting in Secaucus and help us get there,” said Amanda Nesheiwat, Secaucus Environmental Director.
