📰 News we're reading

• Secaucus Police Blotter, Aug. 17 - Aug. 23 (patch.com) — Secaucus residents get a detailed look at last week's police activity, including arrests tied to credit card fraud at Best Buy, multiple outstanding warrants, and a DWI on Route 3. The blotter highlights several suspects from across New Jersey, plus one Secaucus resident arrested on a local warrant and released after posting bail.

• Amtrak Begins $93M Newark Dock Bridge Overhaul To Convert to Fixed Structure by 2028 (wmtram.com) — Major rail upgrades tied to the Gateway Program include a $93 million overhaul of Newark's historic Dock Bridge and related work like the Portal North Bridge replacement in Secaucus. These projects aim to improve safety, reliability, and capacity for Amtrak, NJ Transit, and PATH riders across the busy Northeast Corridor through 2028 and beyond.

• NJ Transit lost nearly $4 million on World Cup service (nj1015.com) — NJ Transit lost nearly $4 million running special World Cup trains through Secaucus Junction to MetLife Stadium after ridership fell far below expectations. The agency says it will cover the shortfall with advertising and real estate revenue instead of raising fares or cutting service, while noting the World Cup still reduced its usual losses on MetLife events.
