Bayonne Man Stole Catalytic Converters From 5 Secaucus Businesses: PD

A Bayonne man was arrested Thursday, after police said he stole catalytic converters from five Secaucus businesses:

SECAUCUS, NJ — A Bayonne man was arrested Thursday, after police said he stole catalytic converters from five Secaucus businesses.

Randy Severino, 24, of Bayonne, was criminally charged with five counts of theft, five counts of criminal mischief, two counts of receiving stolen property, plus illegal gun possession and motor vehicle theft, among other charges.

On June 16 in Garfield, police there notified surrounding towns that a white Honda Civic was believed to be involved in catalytic converter thefts in that town.

At 2:28 a.m. that same day, Secaucus Police Officer Jason Mitchell observed the car on Rt. 3 east i Secaucus travelling at speeds of more than 100 mph. He tried to pull the car over, it failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was later terminated once sight of the vehicle was lost in Jersey City. It was discovered that the 2013 Honda Civic was stolen from Newark in April of this year.

Secaucus Police Detective Sean Egan was able to learn that the same car was observed within an industrial area of Secaucus earlier in that night. During a follow-up investigation it became known that Severino stolen numerous catalytic converters from five businesses in Secaucus, said police.

On Thursday of this week, Secaucus Police Detective Sergeant Giacomo Sallustio and Detective Egan along with Bayonne PD and the FBI went to Bayonne to serve Severino with arrest warrants. He was seen exiting a Toyota Camry near his home; that car was later determined to be stolen from Jersey City.

Moments later, Severino was seen leaving his residence and after a brief foot pursuit, he was placed under arrest. At the time of his arrest, police said they found a loaded 9mm Taurus Millennium semi-automatic pistol in his possession.

“I want to thank all of the agencies that participated in this investigation,” Chief Dennis Miller said. "This arrest is just another example that car thieves pose a real threat to our communities.”

Severino is in the Hudson County Jail.
