BMW Stolen In Clark Used In SUV Break-In Attempt In Secaucus

A BMW X5 reported stolen from Clark was used in an attempted SUV break-in in Secaucus last Thursday. Secaucus Police made 2 arrests:

SECAUCUS, NJ — At 6 p.m. last Thursday, Sept. 22, a Secaucus resident called police and reported that someone tried to break into his BMW X5 that was parked on Humboldt Street and Centre Avenue.

The suspect did not make entry into the SUV, but he did flee in a BMW 750 that was waiting in the area, with several other suspects inside.

Secaucus Police arrived at the scene, investigated and discovered that the BMW 750 had been stolen from Clark earlier that same day, after a home was burglarized and the car's keys were stolen.

The stolen BMW was involved in other auto-related crimes that spanned across several counties and eluded police throughout the day last Thursday, even after being pursued by at least one police agency.

The next day, Friday, Sept. 23, Secaucus Police Detective Sergeant Giacomo Sallustio and Police Officer Dwight Wise went to Halstead Street in Newark and located the stolen BMW 750. While recovering the stolen vehicle, Sallustio identified Jashon King, 20, and Zaire Gaskins, 18, both of Newark, as involved in the attempted theft of the BMW X5 in Secaucus, said police. Both were arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking, criminal attempt to commit theft and conspiracy to commit theft. Additionally, Gaskins had a “no bail” warrant out of Newark. They were both arrested and taken to the Hudson County Jail.
