Clifton, Passaic Men Die Ice Fishing At Split Rock Reservoir

CLIFTON, NJ — A 64-year-old Clifton man was one of two men who died over New Year's weekend while ice fishing on a lake in western New Jersey.

The men drowned while ice fishing at Split Rock Reservoir, according to the Morris County Prosecutor.

They were identified as Stanislaw Grezesik, 64, of Clifton, and Tadeusz Florczuk, 76, of Passaic.

At 1:59 p.m. Saturday, New Year's Eve, a 911 call was received by Butler Police from family members who reported the two men missing.

Their families said they left this area on Friday and drove to Kinnelon to go ice fishing at Split Rock Reservoir.

Kinnelon Police Department met family members at Split Rock Reservoir where the two men were last seen. Their personal belongings were observed on the shoreline and two holes were observed in the ice approximately 100 yards from shore.

The body of one man was recovered, deceased, by ice rescue teams. Dive teams recovered the body of the second ice fisherman the next day, Sunday, New Year's Day.

The search and investigation was done by the following agencies: Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Kinnelon Fire Department, Bloomingdale Fire Department, Montville Fire Department, Boonton Township Fire Department, Parsippany Rescue and Recovery Unit and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad.
