SECAUCUS, NJ — The half-court basketball tournament held at the Secaucus Rec Center this past Sunday, March 29, raised $1,600 for the Secaucus food pantry.
A total of seven teams competed, of four players each. Teams came from the Secaucus town hospital, Secaucus Police and fire departments each fielded a team and a team from North Bergen entered. Also, there was a team of local Secaucus residents, led by team captain Mike Halevi, named Frostbite.
"In the end it came down to Frostbite and North Bergen," said Don Evanson, who publishes the Secaucus Spectator newsletter and who organizes the tournament, now in its second year. "Each team won a game with strong drives to the basket, accurate outside shots and tough rebounding. With the game on the line, two outside shots went through the rim and Frostbite won the tournament."
