Hudson County Vaccine Site In Kearny Now Giving Out Booster Shots
Anyone eligible for a booster can start getting it Monday at the Hudson County-run site in Kearny.

KEARNY, NJ — The town of Secaucus has been giving out coronavirus booster shots for more than a month, but now the Hudson County vaccine site in Kearny will begin giving out the booster shots starting Monday, as well.
The town of Hoboken just started giving out booster shots Monday, as well.
Starting immediately Monday, anyone eligible to receive a booster shot of the Pfizer vaccine can get it at the Hudson County Vaccine Distribution Center, announced Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise.

The vaccine site operated by the county is called the USS Juneau and it is located at 110 Hackensack in Kearny.
You do not need an appointment. The booster shots are free. Bring your prior vaccine card.

According to the CDC, here is who should get the booster shot, at least six months after they got the first two shots:
- People 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot
- People age 50–64 years with these underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot
- People age 18–49 years with these underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot, based on their individual benefits and risk
- People aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional settings, including healthcare workers, may receive a booster shot, based on their individual benefits and risks.
New Jersey, one of America's most vaccinated states, has the eleventh lowest rate of COVID deaths per capita in the country. But the virus is still spreading and taking lives, particularly with the highly transmissible Delta variant.
Of cases diagnosed in the state in the last four weeks, 99.3 percent were the Delta variant, the state says.
New Jersey Hospitalizations Up; More On Ventilators
On Saturday, Sept. 25, 1,068 people were hospitalized in New Jersey battling coronavirus, 129 of them on ventilators to help them breathe. Here are previous weeks' numbers:
- Friday, Sept. 17, 1,150 people were battling COVID in New Jersey hospitals. Of those, 142 were on ventilators.
- Friday, Sept. 10, 1,167 were hospitalized in New Jersey with COVID and 128 were on ventilators.
- Friday, Sept. 3, 1,054 people in New Jersey were being treated in hospitals for COVID, 109 on ventilators.
- Friday, Aug. 27, 1,022 people were hospitalized with COVID, 98 on ventilators.
- Friday, Aug. 20: 923 hospitalized, 73 on ventilators.
As of Sunday night 684,884 Americans have died from COVID, according to the CDC.
