Man Found With Heroin, Meth, Gun In Secaucus Hotel, Police Say

Harmony Suites hotel staff called police to check on a patron. Police say they found a gun, heroin, meth and a date rape drug in his room.

SECAUCUS, NJ — A Long Island man was arrested Monday afternoon at the Harmony Suites hotel after he was found with heroin, crystal meth, ecstasy and a handgun, say Secaucus Police.

Police were called to the hotel at 5:25 p.m. Monday by hotel staff for a welfare check of a patron.

Members of the Secaucus Police Patrol and Detective division, along with the Anti-Crime Unit, executed a search warrant of his hotel room.

Police say they found more than 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than 30 pills of suspected ecstasy, suspected heroin and suspected gamma hydroxybutrate (GHB) (the "date rape drug") in his hotel room.

Additionally, several hundred dollars in suspected drug proceeds and a .177 caliber Tanfoglio Witness 1911 semi-automatic CO2 handgun were seized. The man also had a meth pipe in his room.

Sean McDermott, 33, of South Hampton, NY was taken into police custody and charged with:

Three counts of Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance [2C:35-10a(1)]

  • Possession of Gamma Hydroxybutrate (GHB) [2C:35-10.2(a)]
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine [2C:35-5b(9)(a)]
  • Possession with the Intent to Distribute Ecstasy [2C:35-5b(5)]
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia [2C:36-2]
  • Money Laundering [2C:21-25(a)]
  • Unlawful Possession of a Weapon [2C:39-5b(2)]
  • Possession of a Firearm while Committing a CDS Offense [2C:39-4.1(a)]
  • Certain Persons not to Have Weapons [2C:39-7b(1)]

It was also discovered that he had an outstanding warrant from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

“This arrest was a direct result of the partnership the Secaucus police department has made with hotel staff, but also because of the cohesive and coordinated work of our patrol and investigative personnel,” Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. "I am extremely proud of and thankful for the proactive work being put forth by members of my department. Their efforts will continue so we can eradicate these transient crimes from occurring in Secaucus.”

McDermott was lodged in the Hudson County Jail.
