Man Had Loaded Gun Outside Secaucus Hotel, Police Say

SECAUCUS, NJ — In a traffic stop Friday night outside the Extended Stay motel, Secaucus Police said they found a man with a loaded gun and driving a car with fictitious license plates.

At 5:58 p.m. Friday, the Secaucus Police anti-crime unit, or vice squad, were in the area of the Extended Stay Hotel on Meadowlands Parkway. They saw a car with fictitious plates.

While speaking to the driver, a handgun was observed in the driver’s side door pocket of the vehicle, within his immediate reach, said police.

A 27 -year-old Missouri man was arrested and charged with possessing a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm handgun. The handgun was loaded with one round in the chamber and a fourteen round magazine. A .40 caliber “high capacity” magazine for a different handgun, was also seized from within the vehicle, along with additional handgun ammunition.

Master Jules Summerville, 27, of Missouri, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm [2C:39-5b(1)], two counts of possession of a high-capacity magazine [2C:39-3j] and unlawful possession. He was lodged in the Hudson County Jail.

Secaucus Police formed the anti-crime unit or vice squad last year to look for illegal activity such as prostitution, drugs and guns at Secaucus' many hotels.

“This gun arrest gives credence to how a proactive approach to policing will continue to impede illegal firearms possession,” Chief Dennis Miller said. “The Secaucus Police Department will continue to focus its efforts and commit resources to thwart criminal activity at our problematic hotels.”
