Man Stole From Woman He Knew At Red Roof Inn, Secaucus Police Say

SECAUCUS, NJ — A woman was robbed at the Red Roof Inn in Secaucus on June 6, and Secaucus Police arrested a man Thursday and charged him with the alleged crime.

Secaucus Police were called by the woman to the Red Roof at 5:32 a.m. June 6. She told responding officers a man forced his way into her room, assaulted her and stole her cash and jewelry. He then fled.

The robbery investigation was spearheaded by Detective Gabriel Galella. He determined this was not a random act and the woman was specifically targeted.

Freddie R. Mendenhall Jr., 39, of Bordentown, NJ was identified as the suspect. In the early morning hours of Thursday (July 23), Secaucus Police were doing a surveillance of Mendenhall's home in Bordentown and arrested him there when he arrived.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said police officers can arrest someone anywhere in the state.

He is charged with robbery [2C:15-1(a)(1)] and prostitution [2C:34-1b(1)], and is currently held at the Hudson County Jail.

“Secaucus detectives will work tirelessly and hunt down individuals who commit crimes in Secaucus to bring them to justice,” said Miller. “The Secaucus Police Department is committed to investigating all crimes affecting the quality of life of both residents and visitors of this town. I praise the diligent work of my detectives, and I thank them for their dedication.”
