Man's Life Saved By Secaucus Resident, Police Officer In Front Of Huber Street School
On Sunday afternoon, a 77-year-old Secaucus man passed out in front of Huber Street School.

SECAUCUS, NJ — On Sunday afternoon, a 77-year-old Secaucus man passed out in front of Huber Street School and was found by police and people walking by unresponsive and with no pulse.
This happened at 3 p.m. Sunday, when police were called to directly in front of Huber Street Elementary for a 911 call of an unresponsive man who had no pulse. Upon arrival, Police Officer Emmanuel Mikros immediately began CPR. He was assisted by Melvin Chettum, a Secaucus resident, who was passing by and witnessed the man on the ground.
The police officer also had to use his AED to admiister one shock to the man. Mikros and Chettum continued CPR until the arrival of Secaucus University Hospital’s EMTs.

EMTs then took over CPR and administered a second shock from the AED. A pulse was found shortly thereafter. The man was transported to Secaucus University Hospital and he remains in stable condition at the hospital as of Wednesday.

“This incident defines the true partnership between the Secaucus Police, the community and other Emergency Services,” Chief Dennis Miller said Wednesday. “I am extremely proud of Police Officer Mikros’ actions, which are reinforced by the training provided by our department. I also want to commend Melvin Chettum who was just passing by and stopped to help another resident in need.”
