Men Broke Into Secaucus Gucci, Ran And Hid In Nearby Creeks: PD
Just before midnight Friday, May 1, Secaucus police responded to the Gucci outlet for multiple burglar alarms going off.
SECAUCUS, NJ — Just before midnight on Friday, Secaucus police say a group of men broke into the Gucci outlet in town. They are charged with stealing approximately $26,000 worth of merchandise from the store; they ran from the police and one was found hiding in a nearby creek.
At approximately 11:56 p.m. on Friday, May 1 Secaucus police responded to the Gucci outlet, at 50 Hartz Way, for multiple activated burglar alarms. Gucci security was able to view a live video feed within the store and advised the police in real time that burglars were inside and actively stealing items.
Secaucus police noticed discarded stolen merchandise near the store. Security for Major League Baseball, also on Hartz Way, reported seeing the burglars running near their property. During a search of the area, Detective Lieutenant Michael Torres located Mecca Nevels, pictured, hiding in a nearby creek camouflaged by some brush.

Nevels was placed under arrest without resistance. During a search, he was found in possession of a quantity of suspected marijuana and stolen merchandise from Gucci, said police.
Police said they searched for the other men involved, and even brought in a K-9 from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, but could not locate the other suspects.

“I want to thank the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office for always being willing to assist us with their K-9 resource,” Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. “I also want to commend my responding officers who still perform their essential duties without hesitation, despite the inherit risk to themselves during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”
Nevels, 21 of Newark, was charged with Burglary [2C:18-2a(1)], Theft of Moveable Property [2C:20-3a], Conspiracy to Commit Burglary & Theft [2C:5-2] and Possession of Marijuana [2C:35-10a(4)]. He also had an active warrant from Newark with a bail of $200. He was taken to the Hudson County Jail pending his appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
