Muller Family Shines the Light on The Longest Day

The Alzheimer’s Association Greater New Jersey Chapter (AAGNJ), the leading volunteer-driven health organization in Alzheimer's care, support, advocacy and research, is highlighting inspiring stories and contributions from people making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s and all other dementia.

With more than 6 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia, and more than 11 million family and friends providing care and support for them, individuals across the country are seeking ways to assist those afflicted with the disease. In New Jersey alone, there are more than 190,000 people living with the Alzheimer’s and 347,000 caregivers. On June 21, many of them will be participating in The Longest Day (TLD). The event is held annually on the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, and is a day to raise awareness and funds to help end the disease.

Today we say thank you to Roberta Muller, and the entire Muller family, of Kearny, NJ. "The Muller Family has been such amazing supporters of The Longest Day over the years. They are a great example of a family coming together to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's and show how a diagnosis affects the whole family, not just the person living with dementia. They shine their light on The Longest Day in unique and creative ways and show that you can have fun along the way," said, Danielle Buckler, Special Events Coordinator, AAGNJ.

Roberta explains, “Each year, our family selects a fun and competitive activity to help raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's in support of my mother, Cathy Bianchi who just turned 85 years old. We’ve held a golf-chipping contest in our backyard where we set up small nets around the yard with points. It was a blast trying to see who could hit the most golf balls into the net. Last year, we had a home run derby and did our best to hit dingers out of the field. For our family, the most important part of the day is that we are together enjoying the day with my mother and raising money for a cause that is near and dear to our heart.”

She concludes, “My father, Robert, who recently turned 87, is her primary caregiver. We are very fortunate that my mother remains upbeat, happy and has a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoys working around the house, listening to music, and going shopping with me. She also loves watching her grandsons play baseball and admires her granddaughter's artwork.”
