New Park Coming To The End Of Farm Road

Where the new park will be, at the end of Farm Road in the North End. It will have two dog runs and a parking lot.

SECAUCUS, NJ — The town of Secaucus hopes to open a new park at the end of Farm Road before 2022 is over.

This is the currently empty lot on Farm Road, across from Acorn Park. The town owns the land and has long discussed turning it into a park.

However, that land used to be owned by a tanning company that produced leathers, and the soil was found to be somewhat contaminated. It had to be remediated last year.

The town plans to put two dog runs there (a small-dog run and a large-dog run), a passive park to quietly enjoy the riverfront and a parking lot for 20 cars. This would be a place to park for people who want to use Acorn Park or walk along the Secaucus Greenway on the Hackensack River.

Secaucus will put this out to whoever wants to build the park this March. Bids open March 30.

The town of Secaucus purchased the land from the tanning company a few years ago, paying about $100,000 for it. Secaucus was also given a $300,000 grant from Hudson County to convert it to a park.

However, that $300,000 is not enough money to build the park, town business administrator Gary Jeffas told the Hudson Reporter this week. So the town of Secaucus will have to come up with the rest of the money in its budget to build the park.
