No Appeal Filed Yet In Secaucus Dog Euthanization Case

Robert Braxton has not filed an appeal to stop the euthanization of his three dogs, who attacked a man and woman last month.

SECAUCUS, NJ — As of Thursday, Robert Braxton has not filed an appeal to stop the euthanization of his three dogs, who attacked a man and woman in town last month.

This was the decision Secaucus municipal court Judge Karen Boylan made last week; she said the dogs fit the legal definition of being vicious and they should be put down, after Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Brenden Brower urged her to rule that way.

Braxton has until 1 p.m. on March 23 to file an appeal of her decision. He has not filed anything yet, according to the Secaucus municipal court.

His three dogs, Cane Corsos, attacked the man and woman Feb. 16, in the Red Roof Inn parking lot, where they were walking with their two children. The dogs first dragged the woman down, and then attacked the man who went to help her, biting him around his neck, said the assistant prosecutor.

He said the man will have permanent scars on his face and neck.

Braxton, a Hoboken resident, has criminal charges pending in Hudson County Superior Court; he was charged with second-degree aggravated assault and two counts of endangering. He is currently out of jail, but Braxton is not allowed to own any animals until the criminal charges against him are resolved.

In total, Braxton had six Cane Corsos, three of which he surrendered to the Jersey City Animal Shelter. The other three are being held at the Secaucus Animal Shelter.
