EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — Construction is currently underway on a pedestrian bridge over Rt. 120, connecting American Dream mall with MetLife stadium.
The bridge is being built to accommodate the expected extra foot traffic for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which, of course, will be held at MetLife stadium from June 11 to July 19 this summer.
The new pedestrian walkway is being built directly north of and next to the existing pedestrian bridge that's already there. It will connect the American Dream Mall parking lots to Meadowlands Parking Lot C.

The bridge will be finished before the World Cup, Brian Aberback, a spokesman for the NJ Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA) said this week. The NJSEA had to approve construction of the new bridge.
The NJSEA paid $750,000 to build the new bridge and the contract was given to Epic Management construction management company, located in Piscataway, according to page 93 of this NJSEA board meeting document.

"Construction of the new North Pedestrian Bridge over Rt. 120 on the Sports Complex is underway following a determination that additional capacity beyond that provided by the existing pedestrian bridge over Route 120 is needed to alleviate anticipated pedestrian traffic congestion and provide more favorable pedestrian flow during major events such as World Cup 2026," the document read.
