Rt. 3 Car Stop Reveals Crystal Meth, Illegal Gun: Secaucus Police

A car driving erratically on Rt. 3 in Secaucus Tuesday was found to have an illegal hunting rifle inside, plus crystal meth, say police:

SECAUCUS, NJ — A car that was driving erratically on Rt. 3 through Secaucus Tuesday afternoon was found to have an illegal hunting rifle inside, as well as crystal meth, say police.

Secaucus Police pulled the car over at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday while they were doing a routine patrol of Rt. 3 east. The officers observed the 2017 gray Chevrolet Cruze driving on the white dotted lane marker "for a significant distance."

Officers pulled the car over in the area of 215 Rt. 3 East.

The driver agreed to allow police to search his car and during the search, detectives said they located a quantity of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and a Remington Game Master Pump Action .243 caliber Rifle.

Joshua Hakes, 39, pictured, and Diane Dziaba, 44, both of Bath, NY were arrested.

Hakes was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm [2C:39-5c(1)], Possession of Methamphetamine [2C:35-10a(1)] and Certain Persons Not to Possess Firearms [2C:39-7b(3)].

Dziaba was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm [2C:39-5c(1)], Possession of Methamphetamine [2C:35-10a(1)] and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia [2C:36-2]. They were lodged in the Hudson County Jail.

“The Anti-Crime Unit will continue to proactively patrol the Town of Secaucus to keep our residents safe and apprehend those who insist on committing crimes within our town,” said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. “I am extremely proud of these detectives who continue to put forth an extraordinary effort each and every day.”
