In 2025, they had 12 teams and a team from Union City took home the trophy. This year they are expanding it to allow Passaic Co. teams.

SECAUCUS, NJ — The charity basketball tournament returns to Secaucus this March, hosted by the Secaucus Spectator newsletter and its publisher Don Evanson.

Same as it was last year, this is a half-court four-on-four basketball tournament held at the Secaucus Rec Center on Koelle Blvd. Games go from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. March 29, a Sunday.

In 2025, they had 12 teams participate, and a team from Union City took home the trophy.

Evanson announced that in 2026 he is expanding the event to include teams from Passaic County, as well. Teams are open to residents of Hudson and Passaic counties. Team registration is $100. At the event bring $100 in cash or a check made out to Secaucus Spectator. All proceeds go to the Secaucus Meals on Wheels program and the Secaucus Food Pantry.

The event is a fundraiser for the Secaucus Food Pantry, and last year, on behalf of all the teams, Evanson provided the Secaucus Food Pantry with a check of $1,500.

"This year we want to give more, with your help," said Evanson.

The Secaucus Meals on Wheels and the Secaucus Food Pantry regularly serve over 200 families in Secaucus.

In 2025 the Trump administration canceled $500 million in funding for American food pantries. Later that year, another $500 million from the TEFAP program was halted. Those funds have not been restored.
