Secaucus Hit By 21 Car Break-Ins Early Wednesday Morning

SECAUCUS, NJ — Patch already reported on the subsequent police chase that resulted from this, but as many as 21 cars were broken into in Secaucus in the overnight hours Tuesday into Wednesday morning, Jan. 20.

The cars were parked on Pandolfi Avenue, 2nd Street, 3rd Street, Louis Street and others, said Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller. All the cars had been left unlocked.

The suspects were a group of four teens, ranging from 17-19, said police. They were not local to the area.

A Pandolfi Ave. resident witnessed the four teens breaking into his car at 3:28 a.m. Wednesday and he confronted them. That's when they fled in a black Toyota Corolla, which police said turned out to be stolen out of Philadelphia.

The car chase ended in Hoboken and proceedings from the 21 Secaucus car thefts were found inside the stolen Toyota, such as bank cards, laptops and purses, said Miller. Three of the teens were arrested and charged. The fourth ran away.

"I cannot stress enough that residents need to lock their car doors and never approach someone suspected of committing a crime," he added. "Please just call 911!”
