Secaucus Man Charged With $1-Million Bank Account Fraud

Marc Lazarre was arrested by the FBI Thursday morning, and charged with stealing more than $1 million in stolen bank accounts:

SECAUCUS, NJ — A Secaucus man was arrested Thursday morning and charged with unlawfully using victims’ personal identification information to steal over $1 million, U.S. Attorney Philip Sellinger announced.

Marc Lazarre, 37, of Secaucus, was charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. He is scheduled to appear Thursday afternoon in Newark federal court.

Federal prosecutors say that from September 2021 through October 2022, Lazarre used stolen bank account and personal identity information to open accounts in victims’ names without their knowledge. He transferred funds from the victims’ actual financial accounts into the accounts he opened and then withdrew the money.

Lazarre also unlawfully obtained checks made out to victims, used fraudulent identification documents to open accounts in names almost identical to the victims’ names, and then cashed the unlawfully obtained checks.

Federal prosecutors say he stole more than $1 million. He is facing up to 30 years in prison.
