Secaucus Meat And Fish Market Closing; Supermarket Talks Continue
We have sad news for anyone who enjoyed shopping at the fish and meat market inside Green Farmers Market, plus possible Trader Joe's news:

SECAUCUS, NJ — We have sad news for anyone who enjoyed shopping at the fish and meat market inside Green Farmers Market: The butcher and fishmonger will be closing.
Editor's Note: The entire Secaucus Green Market is NOT closing. Only the fish and meat market, which rented space inside the Green Market, will be closing. The meat and fish section closed May 5.
Their last day of business will be this Saturday, May 5, the owner confirmed to Patch. He said he has been forced to close because the rent he was paying Green Farmers Market was too high, and he was losing money running the meat/fish market. He rents that space from the owners of the store, and had only been in a business for a few months.

"It's a real shame," said Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli. "I know people liked shopping there and liked the products."
We've already reported that Secaucus is actively trying to find a supermarket to come into town. Gonnelli said Thursday, May 3 that Trader Joe's is the latest name being thrown about. Trader Joe's is in talks with Levin Management about possibly opening up in the Plaza at Harmon Meadow, Gonnelli said. If they come to Secaucus, they would open a free-standing store near the now-closed Sports Authority. Levin is the managing agent for the Plaza at Harmon Meadow.

But these are just initial talks and nothing has been finalized, Gonnelli cautioned.
