SECAUCUS, NJ — What a voice! This young woman who lives with her "big Italian family" in Secaucus blew the judges away Monday night on NBC's "The Voice."

Sydney "Syd" Millevoi, 23, stunned all three celebrity coaches, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend as she sang the very first notes of Jessie J's “Mamma Knows Best."

You can watch her compete this season every Monday night at 9 p.m. on "The Voice" (NBC). She's on Legend's team.

Millevoi says she grew up in a "big Italian family in Secaucus, New Jersey." She still lives with her family in town, said Mayor Mike Gonnelli. The Millevoi family has been in Secaucus for a long time, said the mayor.

"My house is like, organized chaos," Millevoi tells the producers in this bio about herself. "'A big Italian family, a four-bedroom house but we made it work for seven people ... there's always noise happening; the TV is blaring, who's yelling from the kitchen. And usually when it's quiet you get a little nervous, like why's it quiet?"

See Millevoi knock 'em dead Monday night, in the final night of Blind Auditions for The Voice: Battle of Champions:

Her parents divorced when she was 10, and she, her mom and brothers moved in with her grandparents and uncle.

"And we never left!" laughs Millevoi.

Millevoi's mother is a former opera singer and was her daughter's first vocal coach. By age 11, Syd was writing songs and performing anywhere that had a mic. Millevoi currently sings in a local wedding band, unnamed, that performs mostly in New York City, but also up and down the East Coast. She's a songwriter who released her own album, “Everything I Couldn’t Say."

Millevoi went to Secaucus grammar schools, and then graduated from High Tech High School. She got her college degree in 2024 at New Jersey City University (NJCU). In fact, Millevoi sang the National Anthem at the 2024 NJCU commencement ceremony at the Red Bulls soccer arena; her performance that day went viral; watch it here: https://www.tiktok.com/@syd.millevoi/video/7370196838412078378.

Millevoi is currently studying for her master's of music in vocal performance at NJCU, class of 2026. She was also a contestant on Season 22 of ABC's “American Idol” in 2024.

"It's wonderful to see one of our students representing NJCU on a national stage," said Amparo Fabra, interim associate humanities dean at NJCU.

Her mother told NBC producers she knew her daughter would one day be nationally recognized for her singing talent. Millevoi said she's been "watching 'The Voice' forever, and to get to compete in the show was a dream."

"Dreams do come true," she said, tearing up.

Millevoi's singing Tuesday night made judge Kelly Clarkson's jaw drop.

"Did you just win The Voice? Is The Voice over?" Levine asked after Millevoi finished. "There's that sense of soul and urgency and passion. Your type of performing is a lost art form that I feel like needs to be thrust back into the spotlight."

However, Millevoi was ultimately chosen to be on the team coached by R&B superstar Legend.

"I'm in awe right now, and I literally have one spot left on my team and I'm like, you were sent from heaven, Syd, to fill that final spot," Legend told her. "And you can win this competition."

If you want to support this hometown girl from Secaucus, you can see her perform in Jersey City this March: Millevoi will take the lead role as Bella in NJCU's spring musical production of “Jagged Little Pill," the Alanis Morrissette musical, running March 20–29 at the NJCU Center for the Arts.
