Created in 2017 by local founders, the foundation funds students from the Somerset community who excel in academics, athletics, arts, service, and social consciousness, and continues to invite residents’ support to sustain its scholarships.

2. Four-Alarm Fire Destroys Franklin Township Commercial Building (rlsmedia.com) — Overnight, firefighters from across Central Jersey battled a four-alarm blaze that tore through a commercial building on Hamilton Street in Franklin Township, Somerset County, forcing collapse zones and heavy water operations. Several Somerset-area businesses appear heavily damaged, but no injuries have been reported so far as investigators work to determine what caused the fire.

3. Lightning Strike Determined Cause of Hamilton Street Strip Mall Fire in Franklin Township (tapinto.net) — A lightning strike sparked a late-night fire that damaged an entire strip mall on Hamilton Street in Franklin Township’s Somerset section, drawing a massive response from Somerset Fire and Rescue and many neighboring departments. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton Street was closed for hours, and township fire officials are still investigating; residents with information are asked to contact the Fire Prevention Department.

4. Media Alert: Somerset County to Host Juneteenth Celebration June 18 (sbbnj.com) — Somerset County is inviting residents to a free Juneteenth celebration on Thursday, June 18, from 4–6:30 p.m. on the Historic Courthouse Green in Somerville. The family-friendly event will honor Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion founder S. Kendall Hall with the Juneteenth Leadership Award and feature reflections on freedom and justice as America approaches its 250th anniversary.

5. 1 Dead, 4 Injured In 2-Car Crash In Bridgewater (patch.com) — A man from Piscataway died and four others were injured after a two-car crash Saturday night on Finderne Avenue in nearby Bridgewater, according to Somerset County authorities. Somerset County’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and Prosecutor’s Office are investigating, and residents are urged to share any information or footage through the STOPit app, tip line, or by calling local investigators.
