2,000 Lose Power In South Brunswick Christmas Day

The high winds caused some Christmas Day-damage in Central Jersey; gusts of 60 mph were reported on Long Island.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The high winds on Monday caused havoc in South Brunswick and elsewhere in New Jersey, leaving some 2,000 people in the Township without electricity on Christmas Day. Trees brought down by wind fell on power lines and there were power outages in the Royal Oak apartment complex, and in Deans and the Monmouth Junction sections of the Township.

The wind also knocked trees onto power lines on Deans Rhode Hall Road near Brooks Crossing Elementary School on Christmas, South Brunswick police said. The power was estimated to be turned back on for these residents by 2:30 p.m. Christmas Day.

The high wind brought down power lines in North Jersey as well, where trees were reported on utility poles in Livingston, NJ. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph were reported on Long Island Christmas morning.
