78 Cases, 2 Deaths As COVID Numbers Decline In South Brunswick

However, the past week's numbers are similar to the number reported at the start of the second wave in November.​

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — For a second consecutive week, South Brunswick saw a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases reported in the township.

For the week of Jan. 17 to 23, the township reported 78 new COVID-19 cases - a 6 percent decrease from last week. But the town also recorded two related deaths.

In addition to the 78 cases, 23 cases were reported from previous weeks. Officials said 36 residents were male and 42 female, with 16 being below the age of 18.

However, the past week’s numbers mirror those reported at the start of the second wave in November.

South Brunswick currently has 1,764 cases of residents who have tested positive.

In the week of Jan. 3 to 9, the township reported 107 COVID-19 cases and seven related deaths – one of their deadliest since the pandemic began.

This prompted the school district to push back reopening for in-person learning in the hybrid model.

Since then, the township has recorded lower number of cases, which prompted the school district to stick to its reopening date on Feb. 1.

Meanwhile the state has launched a free telephone hotline with live operators to answer questions on vaccinations and help people sign up to receive them.

There is a nationwide shortage of vaccines that if also affecting the state. Vaccine sites across New Jersey either don’t have enough vaccines or have no available appointments.
