Bishop Checchio visits schools during Catholic Schools Week
Catholic schools of the Diocese of Metuchen celebrated the nationally recognized Catholic Schools Week Jan. 28 to Feb. 3.

Catholic schools of the Diocese of Metuchen celebrated the nationally recognized Catholic Schools Week Jan. 28 to Feb. 3. This year’s theme – “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” – focused on the important spiritual, academic and societal contributions provided by a Catholic education.
To mark the occasion, Bishop James F. Checchio visited several Catholic elementary schools, where he was warmly welcomed. During his visits, he toured school buildings, stopping along the way to interact and pray with students, faculty and staff.
At St. Augustine of Canterbury School, Kendall Park, pre-K students wore handmade replicas of the bishop’s hat, known as a “mitre,” which he wears during certain times at Mass. In this photo, Bishop Checchio is joined by Fr. Robert Lynam, pastor; Sr. Mary Louise Shulas, principal; and young students, who are enrolled in St. Augustine’s early childhood program for preschoolers.
