BOE Appoints New Principal For Monmouth Junction Elementary

Shaun Ruymen, Assistant Principal at Crossroads North, will be the next principal after Maribeth Edmunds retired earlier this year.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Board of Education appointed Shaun Ruymen as the next principal of Monmouth Junction Elementary School, at the recently-held board meeting on April 7.

Ruymen will be taking over from Maribeth Edmunds who retired earlier this year. Gary W. Abbamont serves as interim principal. Ruymen is currently the Assistant Principal at Crossroads North Middle School.

School Superintendent Scott Feder introduced Ruymen to the community during Thursday's meeting.

“Shaun has been with the district since 2004, been a dean at the high school. He’s been an assistant principal where he is currently serving right now – Crossroads North,” Feder said.

Feder then asked Ruymen to introduce himself to the community. Ruymen thanked the district leadership for placing their trust in him. “Throughout this process, a theme has emerged, and that theme is that moments matter,” Ruymen said. “This moment matters – it matters for me, it matters for the community of Monmouth Junction and for the staff.”

Ruymen used the opportunity to make promises to the staff and community. He promised to support inspire and celebrate the efforts of the staff.

“To the community: I promise partnership, I promise communication, and I promise collaboration. To the students of Monmouth Junction, I promise to share in your laughs, to read with you, and to find out what moments matter most to you,” Ruymen said.

Feder informed the board and community that the process to elect a new principal was rigorous.

"I want to let the board and community know that this was not an easy process. Shaun interviewed three times, and gave a 15-20 minute presentation to a group of 16 people,” Feder said.

“I will say at all stages of the process, Shaun received unanimous support.”
