Bread, Roll, "Yoga Mat Chemical," Breakfast Sandwich - Which One Doesn't Belong?

It's been all over the news since the campaign broke that Subway was going to REMOVE the additive, Azodicarbonamide, from it's bread. What is this and why was it in their bread in the first place? Very good question.

Azodicarbonamide is a chemical used as a foaming agent by the plastics and rubber industry. It is well known for being used in yoga mats. Food manufacturers began adding this chemical to their dough and bread products to make dough rise faster.

While Subway was the main target, more than 500 different packaged foods, including breads, stuffings, croutons and baked goods were found to also contain the chemical!

ADA is banned in Europe and Australia because it has been found to cause respiratory issues and allergies at the very least when workers have been exposed to it. What happens when it's ingested?? No one knows for certain or what the long term effects may be. Isn't that just great?

So once again the point should be made that you should ALWAYS read the labels of what you are buying and eating. Attached is the list of products so you can check for yourself and decide if you want to continue to feed this chemical to your family or not.

From White Castle microwavable burgers, to Sara Lee baked goods, Weight Watchers frozen items and Pilsbury Toaster Strudels and Scrambles - the list goes on. Even Nature's Own brand, which one would automatically believe was "natural" contained ADA.

It scared me for certain and I have been reminded to pay more attention to the labels once again.
