Community Leaders Participate In Ramadan Events In South Brunswick

As Muslims nationwide celebrate Ramadan, community leaders have participated in Iftar - or breaking of the fast - events in South Brunswick.

As Muslims nationwide celebrate Ramadan, community leaders have participated in Iftar - or breaking of the fast - events in South Brunswick.

On July 7, some 200 people visited The Islamic Society of Central Jersey in South Brunswick for a Ramadan Iftar Event, according to a news release.

Guests included South Brunswick Mayor Frank Gambatese, South Brunswick Council Members Joe Hochman and Joe Camarato, Assemblywoman Donna Simon, Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, and South Brunswick clergy members Rabbi Robert Wolkoff and Pastor Beth Scibienski.

On Friday, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman visited The Islamic Society for a Ramadan Iftar, a news release said.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast from predawn until sunset.

“It is a time for increased spirituality, self discipline and a time for increased giving and sharing,’’ the news release said.
