Cranford Man Hit, Killed On Rt. 1 In South Brunswick

Breaking: South Brunswick police have identified the man who was hit and killed early Tuesday morning on Rt. 1 in South Brunswick.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick police have identified the man who was tragically hit and killed early Tuesday morning on Rt. 1 in South Brunswick.

Mohammed Alashi, 27, of Cranford in Union County, is the man who was hit and killed on Rt. 1, Detective Dennis Yuhas confirmed to Patch Wednesday afternoon.

Police are still investigating what he was doing on the dark, isolated stretch of Rt. 1 northbound at 4:30 in the morning Tuesday, April 24. Sometime just before 5 a.m., he was hit by two tractor trailer trucks. At 4:45 a.m. police received a 911 call of a pedestrian struck just past Henderson Road.

He was in the middle of the road when he was hit, police said.

Alashi was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:06 a.m.

A man by that name and town was found to have this Instagram account, which identifies him as an artist of Palestinian ethnicity who was living in America. That's a photo from the crash scene; the crash tied up Rt. 1 for hours, and traffic was backed up for three miles during the morning commute.
