Edison Man, 60, Killed In South Brunswick Crash On June 25

The Edison man may have suffered a medical episode before he fatally crashed his car into an unlicensed commuter van on Rt. 130 on June 25.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick police identified the 60-year-old Edison man who they say may have suffered a medical episode before he crashed his car into an illegal commuter van and was killed on Rt. 130 in South Brunswick Township on June 25.

The fatal accident happened at 8:45 a.m. on Rt. 130 near Fresh Ponds Road. Police say a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Wei Guan, 60, of Edison, was traveling south on Rt. 130 when it crossed the center median and struck a 2012 Chevy van, driven by a 32-year-old man from Annapolis, MD, as it was traveling on Rt. 130 north.

Guan was pronounced deceased at the scene and was the sole occupant of his vehicle. The other driver and two additional occupants from his vehicle were to taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Guan's body was examined by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner, and police say they are awaiting test results to determine if he suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.

The van driver was issued summonses for operating a commercial vehicle without a commercial drivers license, being an unlicensed bus driver and touring privileges of nonresident drivers.

There are many commuter vans that operate up and down Rt. 130 and not all of them are licensed to operate as such.
