Few Weeks Remain For South Brunswick Police Entrance Exam. Here’s What To Know
With the entrance exam fast approaching, the police department has answered some most-asked questions.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The South Brunswick Police Department will be hosting an entrance exam for those who wish to join their ranks. The deadline to sign up for the exam is May 26.
Officers have already attended a dozen job fairs at colleges and community group meetings and the department has sent out letters to over 60 organizations letting them know of the hiring process.
“Our goal is to reach as many people as possible. We want the best of the best to come to serve our great community,” Lt. John Penney, head of recruitment, said in a statement.

“If you know someone who is looking for a great career in a supportive community, then have them take our exam,” he added.

Are you required to live in South Brunswick to take the exam?
There is no residency requirement to be hired as a South Brunswick Police Officer. Anyone can take the exam, they must live in the State of New Jersey at the time of being hired. In the past, we have had applicants from nearly every county as well as surrounding States.
Can I take the examination if I do not currently have 60 credits?
You do not need to have 60 college credits at the time of the exam. The college requirement or its military equivalent is needed at the time you get hired. The exam will be valid for 3 years. In the past, some applicants have earned enough college credits between the time they took the exam and when they were hired.
Do I need a New Jersey driver’s license to take the test?
No. In the past, some applicants have had valid Pennsylvania or New York driver's licenses at the time of the exam. A valid New Jersey driver’s license is needed at the time of hire.
Do you accept waiver transfers of police officers from other departments?
We will hire lateral transfers with a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) Certification who have taken the exam. Officers licensed in other States will have their certification reviewed by the NJ PTC to see if they need to go back to the police academy.
