The project will consist of four phases — Conceptual Engineering, Preliminary Engineering, Final Engineering, and finally Construction Assistance Services.
“The design team which meets regularly, with representatives from all agencies involved has helped to streamline what would otherwise be a very cumbersome and lengthy process,” Chairman of the MCIA James Nolan said.
“Collaboration as the design process progresses, will be a major benefit to moving this project forward in an expedited manner.”
The train station will be located at North Brunswick Transit Village off Route. 1, on the Northeast Corridor Line, which is one of NJ Transit's busiest lines. More: North Brunswick Train Station Gets Major NJ Transit Approval
“This project will add a new station stop in the heart of the Northeast Corridor, our busiest rail line, providing additional access to mass transit, taking cars off the congested highways and reducing emissions while driving economic activity in Middlesex County,” NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kevin S. Corbett said in a statement.
Once the train station is operational, the County will see traffic reduce along the Route 1 corridor, County Commissioner Director Ronald G. Rios said.
“Our residents will receive the benefits of a strategic plan to make Middlesex County a thriving, attractive destination to live, work, and play for generations to come,” Rios said.

The MCIA to serve as the project manager overseeing the design and construction of the project. Under the agreement, MCIA coordinates input from NJ TRANSIT, AMTRAK, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), North Brunswick and its developer and Middlesex County.
North Brunswick Mayor Francis Womack welcomed news of the webpage and its ability to allow residents to check on the project’s progress.
“Our residents have been anxiously awaiting the new train station. As the project progresses, it’s important to be as transparent as possible and keep the public engaged and informed. The dedicated webpage will be a great tool to provide regular updates,” Womack said.
Funding for the project comes from the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund (NJTTF) in the amount of $50 million. This phase of work will include the construction of the Southbound platform, along with a provision to extend an existing pedestrian overpass to serve a potential future Northbound/Eastbound side.
