Former Township Board of Health Member Named Chief of Quality Management for Federal Bureau of Prisons
Dr. Tushar B. Patel was appointed as the Chief of Quality Management for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Health Service Division, Central Office, in Washington, DC.

On May 16, 2012, Dr. Tushar B. Patel was appointed as the Chief of Quality Management for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Health Service Division, Central Office, in Washington, DC. Dr. Patel has been serving as the Quality Management expert since December 2008 in Health Services Division in Washington, DC. Prior to his assignment in Washington, DC in 2008, Dr. Patel served as a Health Administrator at Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix, New Jersey for more than 15 years.
Besides serving as a public servant in Federal Government, Dr. Patel has dedicated his time to serve his own community to provide health education and disease awareness and medical screening for disease prevention and early intervention via health fairs in South Asians throughout New Jersey. The patients are given disease screening, education and counseling on taking pro-active approach to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, various types of cancers and eye abnormalities to prevent blindness by detection of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
Dr. Patel has been involved in various local and state level community organizations for the past 15 years where he dedicate his time and expertise in medical and non-medical volunteer work. He dedicate his services and leadership to various non-profit organizations to include President of Indian Health Camp of New Jersey (IHCNJ), provides free health screening and disease prevention and awareness fairs in New Jersey. To date, IHCNJ provided medical, dental, eye and cancer screening and awareness counseling via health fairs to more than 5,000 uninsured or underinsured people throughout the state since 1999.

Due to his selfless dedicated volunteer service and champion leadership skills, Dr. Patel was requested to provide his expertise in various non-profit, cultural, civic, educational and political organizations in New Jersey. Currently, he is serving as a Secretary of Indo-American Cultural Foundation of Central Jersey and GOPIO-NJ Chapter, Vice-President of Indian National Overseas Congress and a core member of AIANA and event Committee Head for 2012 World Gujarati Conference, Chaalo Gujarat. Dr. Patel also served in the local community homeowner’s association as a Vice-President. He also served in the South Brunswick Township Board of Health as a medical expert.
His new appointment as a Chief of Quality Management Branch, Dr. Patel will be responsible to overlook Quality and Risk management Programs for the Federal Bureau of Prisons Health Care System in 117 facilities to include six medical centers. Dr. Patel will be the first Indian American appointed in this capacity. This is a proud moment for the Indian-Americans in the United States.
