HSS conducts 14th Annual Surya Namaskar Yogathon
4 hour marathon of Sun Salutations conducted by volunteers at HSS
Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh conducted the fourteenth annual "Yoga for Health, Health for Humanity Yogathon" or "Surya Namaskar Yajna". The 16-day event aims to create awareness about Yoga and its advantages in achieving a healthy body, mind, and spirit. Surya Namaskar integrates simple Yoga postures in 10-steps that, along with easy breathing technique, can provide immense health benefits to both the body and the mind.
This year, the respective mayors from South Brunswick and North Brunswick townships as well as the Governer, Phil Murphy, proclaimed Jan 19th to Feb 2nd as Health for Humanity days. During the board meeting at South Brunswick, Mayor Charles Carley spoke about the significance of Yoga and declared the proclamation.
Pranavanand Shakha, the local chapter of HSS in South Brunswick, conducted a 4 hour marathon session. It started at am and concluded at 12 pm. More than 55 people attended the event resulting in more than 5000 Surya Namaskars. Children, ages 5-13, alone did 1750 Surya Namaskars!
