Jersey PT supports 5th Annual Hugs for Brady Twilight 5K & Kids Fun Run

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – While it may not be common knowledge, physical therapy plays a vital role in the treatment and recovery of cancer – from post-surgery rehabilitation and the maintenance of stamina during chemotherapy treatments, to simply providing a person with a sense of empowerment and control over their bodies as they battle the disease.

The team at Jersey Physical Therapy has witnessed these benefits firsthand while working with cancer patients through the years, including the rehabilitation of younger cancer sufferers. Such experiences have moved the clinic to become consistent supporters of Hugs for Brady, a Kendall Park-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children with childhood cancers “in any way possible.”

On Saturday, May 16, Hugs for Brady will strive to further its mission through its 5th Annual Twilight 5K and Kids Fun Run, with all proceeds going toward helping kids (and their families) who are battling cancer. As an annual sponsor of the late-afternoon/evening event, Jersey Physical Therapy will host a cooling-down station to assist runners after the race.

“It’s a local charity that we felt close ties to after hearing what the [founding] family went through, and we wanted to give back,” said Avani Vora, DPT, of Jersey Physical Therapy. “We began to help out and sponsor different events, including their annual 5K. For the past few years, Jersey PT has had a team out there that fundraises and attends the event.”

Jersey Physical Therapy co-founder and South Brunswick native, Marc Rubenstein, DPT, OCS, currently sits on the Hugs for Brady Medical Advisory Board. Such service, according to Vora, is part of the culture he and co-founder Geoffrey Hunt, PT, OCS, have established at Jersey PT.

“Both Marc and Geoff grew up in South Brunswick and have always tried to give back to the community, whether it’s through free seminars or participating at local senior centers or doing free balance screens to determine who in the community is at the greatest risk of falls,” she said. “Supporting Hugs for Brady is another one of our passions, doing what we can as a team to help eradicate pediatric cancer.”

Festivities for the 5th Annual Hugs for Brady Twilight 5K and Kids Fun Run will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 at South Brunswick High School – 750 Ridge Rd in Monmouth Junction. Pre-registration is $25 per runner – $15 for the Kids Fun Run – with the Fun Run beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the Twilight 5K at 6 p.m. For more information, visit hugsforbrady.org.
