Kids Work All Year to Raise Money for SBPL Friends Giving Tree

These children inspire in this season of giving!

There is a money tree of sorts that grows at the South Brunswick Public Library. Fed by the donations of Library supporters, the fruit it bears can be seen in the classes and workshops for all ages and abilities at the Library on Kingston Lane.

Local children Uma and Julian Kelath helped that tree grow bigger earlier this month. Wanting to do something special for others with their chore money this past year, they raised $ 300, enough to buy the Acorn plaque on the Friends’ Giving Tree (located on the wall just outside the Library’s Food for Thought Café.

Their proud mother Olivia Forte-Gardner says she hopes her children’s philanthropy might inspire others to start a charitable family project.

The children presented their check at the Library’s Open House on Dec. 2 to Susan Edelman, president of the Friends of SBPL. She gratefully accepted the children’s generous gift.

The Giving Tree displays brass plaques of birds, acorns, leaves, branches, or stones that memorialize loved ones past and present. Plaques are prized according to size. For more information on how you can add to The Giving Tree, please visit http://www.sbpl.info/friends/givingtree or call the Library at 732-329-4000, ext. 7287.
