The Latest On Nor'easter From South Brunswick
A major storm hit South Brunswick. Here's what happened, and here's what's expected to happen next.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A "major" nor'easter hit South Brunswick on Wednesday, producing snow that was supposed to get worse as the evening approaches.

The National Weather Service labeled the "major" system a "nor'easter" since it's expected to produce strong, sustained damaging winds and precipitation over a 24-hour period on Wednesday.

The first snow began to fall around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management said they expect the storm to impact road conditions beginning Wednesday evening, through Thursday morning.

Road Conditions:
The South Brunswick Police said the road "conditions are deteriorating", as the storm picks up. "Please avoid unnecessary trips, and drive with extreme caution if you must travel," advised the police.
Garbage pickup:
All garbage and recycling collections have been suspended for Thursday, due to the storm. Collections will resume on Friday. The township said delay in service is expected for regularly scheduled Friday collections. Any material from Friday that remains will be collected Saturday. Municipal building delays opening:
Due to the general weather conditions, Municipal offices will have a delayed opening on Thursday, at 10 a.m. The Municipal Building will remains closed to the public due to the pandemic, but residents can call.
The township has asked the public to remove vehicles from the road, to allow the plow crews easy access to clear the 192 miles of township roads. Power outage is anticipated during the storm.

Here are some advisories:
- Keep electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops and tablet computers fully charged.
- Keep a flashlight, portable radio and extra batteries handy.
- Gather extra blankets or a sleeping bag for each person.
- Stock an emergency supply of convenience foods that do not require cooking.
- Never use a portable generator inside the house or a closed garage.
- Never use gas stoves, kerosene heaters or other open-flame heat sources to keep warm. These sources can cause carbon monoxide gas to build up in your home.
Town officials said they will provide updates throughout the duration of the storm.
At 1 p.m. on Wednesday, South Brunswick Public Library closed in anticipated storm. Contact Free Pickup service has been suspended for Thursday morning.

State officials said they have more than 400 pieces of road equipment available to make the roads safe, even though fewer people are taking to the roads because of the coronavirus outbreak.
AccuWeather was saying the system could be the "most significant winter storm in several years," one that could potentially become highly impactful and disruptive as the first round of coronavirus vaccines continue to be shipped around the country.
AccuWeather warned of major disruptions to travel and even travel shutdowns, as well as shipping delays, school closings and power outages from this "blockbuster storm," – even though a number of New Jersey school districts have said they'll opt to go remote instead of closing.

Wednesday night: Rain, snow and sleet before 2 a.m. The rain, snow and sleet could be heavy at times. Low around 27. Northeast wind 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.
Thursday: A chance of snow, mainly before 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 34. North wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation less than one inch possible.
Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.
