Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting South Brunswick:

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — As of Friday afternoon, South Brunswick has 18 positive coronavirus cases, according to police.
Sixteen of those cases are recovering and self isolating at home, said police. Two of those people needed to be hospitalized.
South Brunswick has seen no deaths from the coronavirus so far, but a 65-year-old man died due to virus complications earlier this week in East Brunswick, East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen confirmed. Whether or not he had an underlying health complications was not released by the state health department.

He is the second coronavirus-related death in Middlesex County to date.
As of Thursday, the state of New Jersey has tested 20,537 people: 13,661 were negative and 6,876 were positive. There are 411 positive cases in Middlesex County.

Schools:
All New Jersey schools will remain closed indefinitely, an order that will be re-visited on April 17, Gov. Murphy said Thursday. The South Brunswick School District collected all their medical supplies and donated them to EMS and the police department. They donated more than 7,000 pairs of gloves, 800 surgical adult masks, 400 pediatric surgical masks, multiple thermometers, and seven emergency medical bags.

Trash pick-up
South Brunswick trash and recycling pick-up is still happening as regularly scheduled.
Good news (provided by South Brunswick police):
South Brunswick Social Services conducted a food and fundraising effort over the past week. The Food Pantry collected thousands of food items and over $20,000 in financial donations. Local businesses including Confectionately Yours assisted in raising funds.
Four Seasons Development of South Brunswick conducted a food drive this week. With the assistance of the South Brunswick Public Works staff, all the donated food was added to the shelves of the food pantry.
Café Amici and residents teamed up to deliver meals to the entire Emergency Room staff at Raritan Bay Medical Center.
Wawa, Capriccios Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria, Harbor Chase and the Islamic Center of Central New Jersey have all donated food to the police department this week.
One local group of South Brunswick residents collected and delivered supplies to the nurses at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Home Depot, Wakefern Food, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal and Trish Pharma have all donated needed masks and supplies to South Brunswick Twp.
"There is a lot of good being done around town, so hang in there," say South Brunswick police.
