SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Emergency Medical Service workers are a vital part of the community, as they save lives at a moment’s notice.

On Tuesday, council celebrated the dedication of the township’s EMS crew by passing a resolution designating May 21 to 27 Emergency Medical Service Week. This coincides with National EMS Week.

Mayor Charlie Carley reminded residents that EMS personnel work on a voluntary basis receiving no monetary compensation for the work they do.

“They are essential to the health and happiness of the town. And all of them do it for the civic virtue. So, thank you,” Carley said.

The 49th National EMS week is celebrated May 21-27. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate the first responders and the important work they do for their communities.
