FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - If you're concerned about plans to build a natural gas compressor station off Rt. 27 then come to this community forum Monday, Feb. 27.

If the federal government OKs it, a 32,000-horsepower gas compressor station will be built on the South Brunswick/Franklin Township border, one mile south of the intersection of Rt. 518 and Rt. 27. It will be built along the existing Transco Pipeline, which has run underground through Franklin and South Brunswick townships since the 1960s.

It will be built on a 52-acre plot of land currently owned by Trap Rock Quarry, which active blasting and mining nearby.

Residents who live nearby — Princeton Highlands, Princeton Manor and Princeton Walk — say they are very concerned about safety, environmental damage, noise and more, should the compressor station get built. They are holding a meeting Monday evening, Feb. 27 at the Sampson G. Smith school in Somerset. Write organizers:

DID YOU KNOW that Williams/Transco is proposing to add 32 miles of extra pipeline and build a 32,000 horsepower gas powered gas compressor station for the existing natural gas pipeline at an active blasting site at Trap Rock Quarry?

• Learn from others who have had experience with interstate natural gas projects involving pipelines and compressor stations.

• Be informed about dangers posed to the health and safety of residents, visitors, wildlife and the environment from emitted toxic gases, noise, potential fires and/or explosions.

• Learn more about the safety record of Williams/Transco as well as concerns about a gas-fired compressor station being built in an area where the quarry is involved in active blasting.

• Find out how you can get involved to stop the proposed compressor station, a pipeline under Raritan Bay and the expansion of the fossil fuel industry.

Resolutions have been passed by Township Councils of Franklin, South Brunswick & Montgomery opposing this project. However, those will not stop it. Both Franklin & South Brunswick have established task forces to help inform local officials and the public about it, and there are grassroots groups also working in opposition.
