Middlesex Homeowner Ignored Fireworks Warning, Faces Summonses & Cleanup Costs
Township says detectives are building a case against a Beverly Avenue homeowner.
NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — North Brunswick Township officials say an illegal fireworks display on Beverly Avenue over the Fourth of July weekend remains under active investigation after a homeowner allegedly continued setting off fireworks despite a police warning.
According to Mayor Francis M Womack, the 4th of July is one of the busiest nights of the year for the North Brunswick Police Department, which fields high call volumes throughout the night. On the evening of July 4, officers received multiple calls reporting apparent illegal fireworks in the Beverly Avenue area.
Police located the residence believed to be responsible, instructed the homeowner to stop, and issued a warning before clearing the scene to respond to other calls.

"Unfortunately, it appears that the homeowner chose not to comply and continued setting off fireworks after officers left the area," Womack said.
Since the incident, the Police Department has continued investigating, with detectives following up at the residence, collecting video and photographic evidence, and issuing complaints and summonses, officials said.

"We want residents to know that this matter has been taken seriously from the beginning and that it remains under active investigation," Womack said.
The Police Department has also been coordinating with the township's Office of Community Development and Fire Marshal's Office to determine whether additional enforcement action is warranted. Township crews have already cleaned fireworks debris from the roadway, and officials said the responsible party will be billed for the cleanup costs.
"Quality-of-life issues matter," Womack said. "They have a direct impact on our neighborhoods and on the residents who call North Brunswick home. The Township is committed to holding individuals accountable when they disregard the law and disrupt the community, and we appreciate everyone who took the time to report this incident."
