Nearby towns like Milltown and now Monroe are canceling July 4th fireworks, but there's still no word if South Brunswick will do the same.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — Many New Jersey towns, such as Woodbridge, Milltown and now Monroe, are already canceling July 4th fireworks — and summer camps! — but there's still no word if South Brunswick will do the same.

Monroe announced Wednesday they are entirely canceling this year's fireworks and unfortunately summer camp as well. Milltown announced earlier this week they are canceling fireworks; Woodbridge will do their fireworks in September.

"After much consideration and in consultation with public health officials, Monroe Township announced the cancellation of the Township Recreation Summer Day Camp, July 4th fireworks, and all Senior Center group programming through July 31," said the town.

“These decisions were not made hastily,” said Monroe Mayor Gerald Tamburro. "Under current public health orders, it is not feasible to maintain appropriate social distancing. We are truly disappointed."

Monroe's fireworks are usually held in Thompson Park and typically draws thousands of viewers from around the region.
