Monroe Man Charged in Three-Hour Police Standoff
Man who led police on a 3-hour standoff at his Monroe home, with an injured woman trapped inside, has been charged with attempted murder.

Monroe Township, NJ - A man who led police on a three-hour standoff Friday morning at his Monroe Township home — all while an injured woman was trapped inside — has been charged with attempted murder, Middlesex County prosecutors announced Monday morning.
Robert A. Witkowski, 47, finally surrendered to special ops officers and police Friday at 12:55 p.m., after a standoff that started at 9:34 a.m. There were hours of negotiations before Witkowski finally gave up, prosecutors said. Middlesex County's Special Operations Response Team (SORT) responded, which is similar to a SWAT team.
Once police were able to get inside the home, they found a woman on the second floor, suffering from a head injury. She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
