More Rt. 1 Road Closure Headaches for South Brunswick

A roadwork project starts this week that isn't expected to be completed until early 2017.

South Brunswick, NJ - We're sorry, South Brunswick residents: More Rt. 1 road closures will happen, as the state DOT begins a roadwork project that won't be completed until early 2017.

Lanes on Rt. 1 North between Raymond Road to Aaron Road will be closed for several weeks for a paving project, the township announced Monday.

Daytime and overnight road closures start Monday, the state Department of Transportation said.

Starting April 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again Monday night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Della Pello Paving is scheduled to temporarily close lanes and shoulders along Route 1 northbound from Raymond Road in South Brunswick to Aaron Road in North Brunswick.

Della Pello is the DOT's contractor. The work will continue during off-peak hours and weeknights for several weeks. This first phase of the project is for paving.

The second phase will consist of milling and paving, the installation of ADA compliant curb ramps, and pedestrian signals at each intersection. There will always be at least one travel lane in each direction open at all times. The project is expected to be completed by early 2017.
