Murphy Vs. Ciattarelli: How East Brunswick Voted

In the closest gubernatorial election in decades, here's a look at how East Brunswick voted.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — It has been the closest gubernatorial race in decades. With the race declared for Phil Murphy over Jack Ciattarelli with 98 percent of the votes counted statewide, here's a look at how East Brunswick and Middlesex County voted.

The voter turnout in Middlesex was 33.04 percent, according to unofficial tallies published by the county as of Friday. The county has 582,828 registered voters and 192,590 cast their ballots.

On Friday evening, after the results were updated, Murphy received 53.55 percent votes and Ciattarelli got 45.46 percent.

The official election results will be determined at the Board of Canvassers meeting on Nov. 15 and the County Clerk must certify official election results to the Secretary of State by Nov. 20.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, Murphy had a margin of 56,624 votes — 1,271,381 to 1,214,757 according to the Associated Press.

For the NJ 18 District race, the results followed a similar pattern. Around 56.72 percent of people voted for Republican Vihal Patel, while veteran Democrat Patrick Diegnan got 43.20 percent of votes for Senate as of 11 a.m. on Friday. But with the addition of vote-by-mail ballots, Diegnan pulled ahead of his opponent. As of Friday evening, Diegnan got 55.82 percent of votes with Patel gaining 44.11 percent.

Vote-by-mail ballots are still being counted in many counties. All ballots postmarked before November 2, will be counted until November 8.

In the assembly race, incumbents Sterley Stanley of East Brunswick and Robert Karabinchak garnered fewer votes than Republicans Angela Fam (East Brunswick) and Melanie McAnn Mott in early count. But by Friday evening, Karabinchak got 26.43 percent votes and Stanley, an East Brunswick resident, got 26.84 percent votes. Meanwhile, Mott and Fam won 22.62 and 22.79 percent votes respectively.
