New Member to South Brunswick Board of Education
Martin Abschutz was chosen to fill the empty board seat created by Lisa Rodgers.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Martin Abschutz has been named as the newest South Brunswick Board of Education member, TAP Into South Brunswick reported. But Abschutz is not exactly new: He has served on the BOE in the past. Board President Steven Parker said they chose Abschutz because of his experience; the board is currently getting ready to interview for a new South Brunswick schools superintendent as Dr. Gary McCartney is only interim.
Abschutz was named to fill the empty board seat created by Lisa Rodgers. Rodgers ran for a seat on the board this past fall, but then she abruptly withdrew her name from the race. Rodgers was a popular candidate, and she never publicly said why she changed her mind.
However, it was too late to remove her name from the ballot on the Nov. 8 election, and Rodgers, along with incumbents Azra Baig and Harry Delgado, won. After she withdrew, the seat was opened up to the public and six people filed applications by the Dec. 2 deadline: Anil Patel and Laszlo Nyitrai (who also ran in the Nov. 8 election and lost), and Jignasha “Joyce” Mehta, Sabuha Qureshi-Din and Prashant Joshi, TAP Into reported.

Last Thursday night, all were interviewed and then the Board went into a closed-doors session and chose Abschutz.
Interviews for the superintendent job are scheduled to begin in January, and they hope to have a hire in place by June. Almost 40 people applied for the superintendent job, Dr. McCartney said. Read the original article here on TAP Into.
