Lisa Rodgers Ends Run For South Brunswick Board of Ed

BREAKING: The unexpected announcement came just 13 days before the election.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ-- Board of Education candidate Lisa Rodgers announced today that she will be ending her campaign.

"To all of you who have helped me in this effort, I so appreciate your support but I know this is the right thing for me and my family at this time," Rodgers said in a statement. "My husband, children and extended family and friends are in support of this decision. I truly thank you all for your help and I know I have your support and understanding."

Rodgers has since deleted many posts from her official Facebook page that had been promoting her run. She told Patch the deletions were because she was " just trying to focus on the one post announcing my departure."

In her post, she asked that voters support the "most qualified candidates." Three spots are available, and four candidates remain: Azra Baig, Laszlo "Laz" Nyitrai, Anil Patel, and Harry Delgado.

Because of how close it is to Election Day, Rodgers' name will remain on the Nov. 8. ballot, meaning, theoretically, Rodgers could be elected to the Board. Should that happened, an appointment would fill the seat until next year, when an election could be held.

"I wish her well. Hope she continue to fight for Educational Cause for Our district," Anil Patel told Patch. "I support her decision."
